Ponting Wines is bringing a new chapter to the table with the launch of the Ponting Barbeque Sauce, a product born from the same Tasmanian roots that shaped Ricky Ponting's story long before cricket took him around the world.
Ricky grew up in Launceston, playing his junior cricket at the Mowbray Cricket Club, and Tasmania has remained central to the Ponting Wines range ever since, most visibly in the cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that carry the Tasmania name.
The Barbeque Sauce extends that story from the glass to the plate. It is made using our own Ponting Tasmanian Pinot Noir, blended with hand-foraged native Tasmanian pepperberry, an ingredient with deep roots in Tasmania's food culture and a natural match for the wine.
The result is a sauce with genuine provenance. Ninety-seven per cent of its ingredients are sourced from Australia, it is gluten free, and it is made without artificial additives.
The sauce has been crafted in partnership with Island Harvest Tasmania and chef Adrian Richardson. Island Harvest brings production expertise grounded in Tasmanian ingredients and small-batch food making, while Adrian lends his experience as a chef known for honest, produce-led cooking. His involvement reflects the same principle that runs through the wine range: every product should hold its own on flavour and craft, not simply borrow a famous name.
That principle matters to Ricky. The Barbeque Sauce was never going to be a side project wearing the Ponting label. It had to earn its place alongside the wines, built the same way the wines are: with care, with real ingredients, and with people who know what they are doing. Ben Riggs, Chief Winemaker for Ponting Wines, has spent years applying that same standard to the range, and the sauce was developed with the same expectations in mind.
For Ricky, the sauce is also personal. It brings together two of the things that have always sat side by side in his life, wine and food shared with family and mates, and it gives that Tasmanian story a new way to reach people's homes and their barbecues.
